The Switch house was PMa’s submittal to the “Portland – Living Smart” ideas competition. This competition was held to create new solutions to Portland narrow lot development.  The Switch house was selected as one of 14 homes to be included “The Portland Catalog”, a series of designs pre-approved by the city for zoning approval.

Portland is well known for its numerous modes of public transportation. The Switch house responds to this trend by creating a flexible frontage – a welcoming entry that can function as a covered porch or secure garage.  Contrary to the typical narrow lot house, this dwelling has large open public spaces on the ground and second floors of the dwelling, promoting interaction with neighbors and vision to the street.
